I heard a tree falling in the distance as I took this photo. Must have been a big tree, the sound kept on for ages. Strange that it’d fall today when there’s hardly any wind.

I still sometimes see marks from the 2009 fires on trees around the block, each one a tiny reminder. I look out and see how dry the leaf litter is, and wonder how long it’ll be before fire comes sweeping back up that hill again.

Still though, there’s no smoke in the air today, just the birds and the flies.
